Va tutto bene.

Mi sono operato qualche giorno fa, e tutto è andato alla perfezione.

Scriverò presto tutti i dettagli dell'intervento, e degli enormi benefici che ho tratto da La Cura, la mia cura open source.

E adesso è il momento di andare oltre, e di lavorare insieme per rendere questa esperneza utile e significativa per tutti.

Aspettatevi delle novità. Molto presto. :)

Everything is fine.

I have had my surgery a few days ago, and everithing went perfectly.

I will soon write all the details of the surgery, and of the enormous benefits which i was able to gather through La Cura, my open source cure.

And now it is the time to move on, and to work even harder together to make this experience useful for everyone.

Il Natale e la fine dell'anno sono arrivati, e "La Cura", la nostra Cura Open Source, sta procedendo a piena energia.

Io sto bene e sto migliorando. E, cosa più importante di tutte, stanno succedendo delle cose.

Cose che riguardano me, ovviamente, ma anche e soprattutto voi.

Abbiamo parlato, presentato e raccontato la storia. E discusso. Molto. In tutto il mondo. Sui giornali, i programmi televisivi, i siti web, grandi e piccoli.

Centinaia di migliaia di persone sono venute a conoscenza del fatto che esiste una possibilità.

Di tornare ad essere umani.

Per sfuggire a tutti quei meccanismi in cui pensiamo di essere incastrati, e lavorare assieme: tra di noi, con la natura, la scienza, la cultura, le tradizioni e, soprattutto, con i nostri le altre persone.

Voglio ringraziare ciascuno di voi per tutto questo. Ogni testimonianza, contributo, suggerimento, storia, immagine, video, documentario, poesia, performance, connessione, contatto, offerta e consiglio mi ha veramente aiutato. Sia negli aspetti pratici della lotta al tumore, il passeggero indesiderato nel mio corpo, che per trovare l'energia di attuare questa meravigliosa performance globale, di cui tutti noi siamo parte.

Abbiamo la possibilità di fare qualcosa adesso, che è rilevante per trasformare i modi in cui funzionano le nostre società.

Possiamo trasformare il significato della parola "cura". Possiamo trasformare il ruolo della conoscenza. Possiamo essere umani.

Non ho avuto modo di rispondere a ciascuno di voi, e stiamo ancora pubblicando tutti i vostri contributi.

Alcune settimane fa ho sviluppato un visualizzatore di file DICOM online

E' ancora in fase embrionale, e quindi qualcosa potrebbe non funzionare ancora bene, ma permette a chiunque di condividere i propri dati medici online, in maniera semplice. Ed è Open Source. il che vuol dire che potete prendere il software, partecipare al suo sviluppo, migliorarlo, o anche usarlo per i vostri fini (ma se lo fate, per favore condividete ogni miglioria con il resto della comunità).

Christmas and the end of the year have arrived, and "La Cura", our Open Source Cure, is still going on at full strength.

I am fine and progressing. And, most important of all, things are happening.

Things which are about me, obviously, but also and more importantly about you all.

We have talked, and presented, and told the story. And discussed. A lot. All over the world. On newspapers, TV programs, websites, large and small.

Hundreds of thousands of people have heard that there is a possibility.

To become human again.

To escape the mechanisms in which we believe we're stuck into, and work together: among ourselves, with nature, science, culture, traditions and, most important of all, with our fellow human beings.

I want to thank each and everyone of you for this. Each testimony, contribution, suggestion, story, image, video, documentary, poem, performance, connection, contact, offer, advice has truly helped me. Both in the practice of fighting cancer, the unwanted passenger in my body, and to find the energy to enact this wonderful, worldwide performance of which we are all a part of.

We have the chance of doing something now which is relevant for the way our societies work.

We can transform the meaning of the word "cure". We can transform the role of knowledge. We can be human.

I haven't had the chance to reply to each and everyone of you and we're still publishing all of your contributions.

A few weeks ago I developed an online DICOM File viewer

It's still in early stage, so something might not fully work, but it allows anyone to share their medical data online, easily. And it's Open Source, meaning that you can grab the software, participate to its development, enhance it, or even use it for your own purposes (but if you do, please share any enhancements you make to the software back with the rest of the community).

Va tutto molto bene.

Ho fatto la mia ultima risonanza magnetica e il tumore sembra essersi completamente fermato.

Ho quindi ancora un po' di tempo per rifinire la mia strategia, e per continuarla con forza ed energia, preparandomi per l'operazione chirirgica.

Se guardate al link della risonanza, qui sopra, vedrete che usa un software che abbiamo creato: si chiama DICOM Viewer.

Questo è un software molto semplice da usare: potete prendere il CD che vi danno all'ospedale o al laboratorio di analisi, comprimerlo in un archivio ZIP, caricarlo sul sito e, così, produrre con pochi click un semplice indirizzo web che può essere inviato in modo molto semplice (via mail, col cellulare, da un tablet, condividendolo su un social network...) per condividere le vostre informazioni mediche.

Questo è solo un piccolo assaggio delle cose che stiamo creando nella prosecuzione della Cura Open Source.

Ovviamente il software è libero, nel senso che potete scaricarlo e usarlo come meglio credete.

Sarebbe molto bello, per esempio, che qualcuno lo prendesse e contribuisse a svilupparne le caratteristiche, magari anche dandoci una mano con tutti gli altri progetti che stanno prendendo origine dalla Cura Open Source.

Everything goes really fine.

I just had my latest Magnetic Resonance and the tumor seems to have completely stopped.

I still have some time to fine-tune my strategy, and to continue it with energy and strenght, preparing myself for surgery.

If you look at the link above, where you can find the images of my Magnetic Resonance, you will see that it uses a software we just created: it's called DICOM Viewer.

It is a piece of software that is very simple to use: you can just grab the CD they give you at the hospital or analysis lab, compress it using ZIP, upload it on the website and, with just a few clicks, create a simple web address which you can easily send to anyone (through mail, smartphones, social networks...) to share your medical information and images.

This is just a small taste of the things which we are creating in the Open Source Cure initiative.

Obviously, the software is free/libre, meaning that you can download it and use it as you wish.

It would really be nice, for example, if someone would take it and helped out to develop its features, possibly also giving us a hand with all the wonderful projects which we are creating from the Open Source Cure.

Tutto procede nel migliore dei modi.

La risonanza magnetica che ho fatto pochi giorni fa mostra che il tumore non è cresciuto, e in posizione operabile con pochi problemi. Le strategie alimentari, di stile di vita, l'oncologia omeopatica, la medicina tradizionale cinese e le tante energie che tutti voi mi avete mandato hanno avuto gli effetti sperati.

A breve avverrà il mio intervento chirurgico: giusto il tempo di aspettare i risultati delle mie ultime analisi e i tempi tecnici per predisporre l'operazione e anche questa sarà fatta, e potremo passare ai passi successivi.

Intanto sta succedendo qualcosa di straordinario: i media internazionali hanno deciso di interessarsi alla cura open source e tantissime persone, dottori, ricercatori, scienziati, hanno capito il significato di tutta questa operazione e hanno deciso che è il momento di iniziare a cambiare le cose.

Stiamo lavorando con tanti di voi per creare una azione, che permetta di realizzare il bellissimo scenario che abbiamo visto prendere forma in questi giorni.

Uno scenario rappresentato da una umanità che ha capito perfettamente che le tecnologie e le reti possono essere uno strumento perfetto per costruire insieme un futuro fatto di benessere e solidarietà, di persone che desiderano essere soggetti attivi del proprio presente, e costruttori gioiosi e collaborativi del proprio futuro.

Nei prossimi giorni vi inizieremo a raccontare il resto di questa meravigliosa storia.

Nel frattempo: grazie a tutti per le tante energie e per l'amore che mi state dimostrando. Io sto bene, e mi appresto a stare ancora meglio!

Everything proceeds in the best of ways.

The magnetic resonance I did a few days ago shows that the tumor in my brain has not grown, and that it is positioned in a way that allows for surgery with few risks. The dietary strategies, the changes in lifestyle, the homeopatic oncology, the traditional chinese medicine and the many energies which you all have given me have all had the best of results.

In a few days my surgery will take place: just the time to complete the last analyses and the technical times needed to prepare the surgery and this step will be done, as well, and we'll all be ready to confront with the next steps.

In the meanwhile, something extraordinary is happening: the international media have decided to highlight the story of the open source cure and thousands of people, doctors, researchers, scientists have understood the meaning of this whole operation, and they have decided that this is a great moment to start making a change.

We are working with many of you to take action and realize the beautiful scenario which we have seen shaping itself in these few days.

A scenario enacted by that part of humanity which has perfectly understood that technologies and networks can be the perfect instrument to build, together, a future focused on well-being and solidarity, on the desire of being active subjects of our present, and joyful, collaborative creators of our future.

During the next few days we will start telling you the rest of this beautiful story.

In the meanwhile: thank you all for the many energies and the love you are showing to me. I am fine, and I am getting ready to feel even better!

Stiamo per cominciare a caricare tutti i vostri meravigliosi contributi!

Appariranno qui sul sito, insieme a formare la Cura.

In più ci sono alcune notizie sul formato DICOM in cui erano memorizzati i dati delle analisi.

Francesco Ponzin mi ha aiutato con gli estratti del CD. Il formato DICOM è, tecnicamente, un formato aperto. Nel senso che è documentato e condiviso tra gli operatori professionali.

In pratica, i file che ho ricevuto erano codificati in maniera un po' particolare (stiamo per pubblicare un tutorial in merito). Cosa che mi ha spinto a fare un hack per portarli in formati più maneggevoli.

Di fatto io, nonostante non sia uno "sprovveduto tecnologico", ho avuto diverse difficoltà ad usare il formato, ad aprirlo, a distribuirlo, a "farci delle cose".

Mi viene, ovviamente, in mente la situazione in cui si sarebbero trovate persone meno alfabetizzate per quel che riguarda tecnologie e reti: come suggerito inizialmente avrebbero, con tutta probabilità, dovuto mettere i CD in una busta, da spedire agli interessati per raccomandata, o qualcosa del genere.

Forse potrebbe essere un momento interessante per parlare del concetto di "open", che sempre più, per fortuna, significa sì "standard" e "condiviso", ma anche "accessibile", come dovrebbero essere gli "Open Data": vai su un link, te li scarichi e ci fai quel che ti serve.

Siamo testimoni, di giorno in giorno, dei benefici che vengono portati dal fatto che i dati aperti vengono usati con creatività, magari anche secondo modalità che non erano state previste inizialmente. L'innovazione è nella scienza, nella ricerca e anche, molto importante, nella creatività di quelle persone che decidono di agire attraverso i domini, definendo nuovi territori.

C'è molta speranza anche lì.

E questo mi porta ad una seconda considerazione.

Il formato di dati che mi son trovato a dover hackerare mio malgrado è in una particolare condizione di sintonia con la comune definizione della condizione di "malato".

La definizione della "malattia" è qualcosa che è "riservato" ai medici. Spesso usando parole che non comprendiamo e, soprattutto, toccando solo una parte della condizione umana, che è fatta di corpo, sì, ma anche di spirito e socialità.

Il formato DICOM è aperto, sì, ma è una condizione "particolare" di apertura: è come l'apertura delle parole con cui ti comunicano il tuo stato di salute e con cui descrivono e attuano la loro versione di "cura": non si capisce, non si riusa, non si combina con altre possibilità, è pensato per "gli addetti ai lavori", lasciando ben poco spazio alla possibilità di espressione, di socializzazione.

Se ne avete voglia, vi invito a leggere il libro "Un altro Giro di Giostra" di Tiziano Terzani che, nel suo giro di waltzer col il cancro ha espresso molte, stupende suggestioni sulle possibilità di evoluzione di termini come "malattia", "cura", "salute".

Oppure pensate a Franco Basaglia e alla ridefinizione della condizione di "malattia mentale", e al significato filosofico, spirituale e sociale che ne consegue, riportando il "malato" alla vita, alla società.

Pensatele applicate alla nostra condizione attuale, alla possibilità di ritornare a delle forme di dignità e di socialità umana basate sulla condivisione di idee e percorsi, sulla riappropriazione di uno stato di solidarietà sincero e attivo, dalle molte facce e modalità.

Ecco, forse potremmo iniziare a pensare a un mondo "open" anche in questo senso, non dedicato ai "professionisti" e alle "procedure", ma agli esseri umani.

Voglio chiudere con un sincero ringraziamento a tutte le persone, i medici e gli infermieri dell'Ospedale S. Camillo di Roma che ho incontrato in questa vicenda: a loro il merito di avermi permesso di affrontare questa vicenda in modo tranquillo, e sereno, grazie alla loro competenza, professionalità e umanità.

Even more, we have some updates about the DICOM format which was used to store the my clinical data.

Francesco Ponzin helped me with the CD extracts. The format DICOM format is, technically, an open format. Meaning that it is documented and shared among professional operators.

In practice, the files I received were encoded in ways that were a bit peculiar (we are about to publish a tutorial about it) so that I was pushed to hack them to convert them to other open, more easily manageable formats.

As a matter of fact I had several difficulties in using this format, and I am not exactly a newbie. I had a hard time opening the format, distributing it and "doing something with it".

The situation of less tech-savy persons having to deal with this format obviously comes to mind. From what I can imagine, this kind of people would have placed the CD in an envelope and (snail)mailed it.

So, this could be a great time to discuss together the concept of "open", which, luckily, is starting to mean "standard", "shared" bu also "accessible, as "Open Data" should be: you go to a link, you download them, you do what you need/want.

We are daily witnesses of the enormous benefits coming from the fact that open data are used creatively, maybe even in ways which were not imagined in the beginning. Innovation is in science, in research but also in the creativity of those people who decide to act across domains, defining new territories.

There is a lot of hope there.

And this brings me to a second consideration.

The data formats which I was "forced" to hack is in a peculiar state of harmony with the common definition of "disease/illness".

The definition of "diseases" is "reserved" to doctors. Often using words which we don't understand and, most important of all, touching only a part of the human condition, which is made from body, but also of spirit and sociality.

The DICOM format is open, yes, but in a very "peculiar" condition of openness: it is like the openness of the words which they use to tell you about your health condition, and with which they descrive and actuate their version of the "cure": you can't understand it, you can't reuse it, you can't combine it with other possibilities. It is thought for "experts" and "professionals" (of one single type), leaving little space for other possibilites for expression and socialization.

If you feel like it, I urge you to read the book"Un altro Giro di Giostra" by Tiziano Terzani who, in his round of waltz with cancer has expressed many, beautiful suggestions about the possible evolution of terms such as "disease", "cure" and "health".

Or think about Franco Basaglia and to the redefinition of the condition of "mental illness" and to the philosophical, spiritual and social meaning that comes with it, taking the "mentally ill" back to life, to society.

Think about both as they could be applied to our current condition, to the possibility of reclaiming forms of human dignity and sociality which are based on the possibility to share ideas and paths, and on the re-appropriation of a state of solidarity that is sicere and active, with multiple faces and modalities.

Maybe we could start to think about an "open" world in this sense, too, not dedicated to "professionals" and "procedures", but also to human beings.

I want to close this update with a sincere thanks to all the people, doctors and personnel of the S. Camillo Hospital in Rome which I came across during these days: with their skill, professionality and humanity thay allowed me to confront with this condition with calmness and serenity.

Controlla gli Aggiornamenti

Ho un tumore al cervello.

Ieri sono andato a ritirare la mia cartella clinica digitale: devo farla vedere a molti dottori.

Purtroppo era in formato chiuso e proprietario e, quindi, non potevo aprirla né con il mio computer, né potevo mandarla in quel formato a tutti coloro che avrebbero potuto salvarmi la vita.

L'ho craccata.

L'ho aperta e ho trasformato i suoi contenuti in formati aperti, in modo da poterli condividere con tutti.

Solo oggi sono già riuscito a condividere i dati sul mio stato di salute (sul mio tumore al cervello) con 3 dottori.

2 mi hanno già risposto.

Sono riuscito a farlo solo perchè i dati erano in formato aperto e accessibile: loro hanno potuto aprire i file dal loro computer, dal loro tablet. Mi hanno potuto rispondere anche da casa.

Progressivamente, renderò disponibili tutte le risposte che riceverò, sempre in formati aperti, così che chiunque abbia il mio stesso male possa beneficiare delle soluzioni che ho trovato.

Questa è una CURA. E' la mia CURA OPEN SOURCE.

Check the updates

I have a brain cancer.

Yesterday I went to get my digital medical records: I have to show them to many doctors.

Sadly they were in a closed, proprietary format and, thus, I could not open them using my computer, or send them in this format to all the people who could have saved my life.

I cracked them.

I opened them and converted the contents into open formats, so that I could share them with everyone.

Just today I have been able to share the data about my health condition (about my brain cancer) with 3 doctors.

2 of them already replied.

I have been able to do it because the data used open, accessible formats: they have been able to open the files using their computers, their tablets. They have been able to reply from home, on sunday.

I will progressively publish all the replies I will receive, using open formats, so that anyone with my same disease will be able to benefit from the solutions I will find.

This is a CURE. This is my OPEN SOURCE CURE.

This is an open invitation to take part in the CURE.

CURE, in different cultures, means different things.

There are cures for the body, for spirit, for communication.
